Fact Checking President Obama's Farewell Address

As the Democratic and Republican parties drift further toward opposite ends of the political spectrum, some disaffected voters are looking for middle ground.

Members of the Electoral College will meet on Monday to cast their votes for President of the United States. Meanwhile movements are surging around the country to try to get Republican electors not to vote for Donald Trump.

The State Board of Canvassers: Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox, Attorney General Sean Reyes, Auditor John Dougall, and Treasurer David Damschen met Monday to certify the official results of statewide and multi-county races.


This year’s presidential race has brought increased scrutiny to the Electoral College, and by default, the 538 members who comprise it. That include's Utah's own six electors.

The Salt Lake County Clerk released its final election results on Tuesday night, two weeks after the general election.

 

A recount is expected in the House District 32 race between incumbent Republican Lavar Christensen and his Democratic challenger Suzanne Harrison.

 

Harrison was trailing by six votes over the weekend and in the final tally, came up just three short. The Utah Democratic Party announced it will formally request a recount.

Voters in Salt Lake County experienced long lines on election night and the county is still counting ballots. It will take nearly two weeks to report final results.

Republican Mike Lee defeated his Democratic challenger Misty Snow and will represent Utah for another term in the U.S. Senate.

Republican Mia Love defeated her Democratic challenger Doug Owens and will serve another term representing Utah’s 4 Congressional District.

Republican Rep. Chris Stewart will serve another term in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District. Early voting numbers showed the incumbent Congressman Stewart leading Democratic challenger Charlene Albarran by about 30%.

Independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin fell short of his goal of taking Utah away from Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, despite widespread dissatisfaction for both candidates.

Governor Gary Herbert defeated his Democratic challenger Mike Weinholtz with more than seventy percent of the vote to win re-election.
