The Islamic Society of Greater Salt Lake released a statement after it was revealed that the suspected perpetrators of the attacks in San Bernardino were Muslim. Imam Mohamed Mehtar of Khadeeja Mosque in West Valley City condemned the attacks, but also said he hoped “that Muslim communities around our nation will not be implicated for this barbaric act committed by these people.”

A Utah veteran says he’s helping to protect the Western world by suing a former Guantanamo prisoner. Retired special forces sergeant Layne Morris of South Jordan believes Canadian national Omar Khadr is a potential threat to national security. But a senior US military official says Morris is wrong and out of line with his lawsuit.

In 2002, Layne Morris was partially blinded by shrapnel from a grenade thrown from an al-Qaeda compound in Afghanistan.

The U.S. Attorney’s office for Utah is charging a Provo man with violating federal firearms laws.

After the explosions in Boston Monday, one Salt Lake City mother was relieved to find out that her daughter was safe at the Boston Plaza Hotel. But the family is still having trouble getting past the incident.

Rennly Williams says she didn’t see or hear the explosion at the finish line. Her boyfriend Tom Hickenlooper had finished the race 10 minutes before – faster than he expected because of a knee injury. Just a little slower, and he and Williams might have been there for the blast.
