With the general election just under three weeks away, candidates in the 3rd Congressional District race faced off in one of their final debates Wednesday.

Herrod for Congress

Former state lawmaker Chris Herrod made headlines this year after he pulled off an upset win at the Utah GOP’s special nominating convention for the 3rd Congressional District. After several years on the political sidelines, the 51-year-old Republican is hoping to re-enter the fray, and is locked in a competitive race for Jason Chaffetz's seat. On the trail, Herrod has emphasized his conservative record and international experience of teaching in Ukraine for several years.

Tanner Ainge is one of three Republicans vying for the 3rd Congressional District seat left vacant by Jason Chaffetz. The 33-year-old investment adviser is not only the youngest candidate in the race but a relative political newcomer. KUER sat down with Ainge in the studio to ask him his thoughts on health care, his famous father and why he decided to run.

John Curtis Campaign

For the last eight years, voters have given John Curtis high marks as the mayor of Provo, Utah’s third largest city. Now he’s hoping that popularity will translate into a successful run for Congress. He’s one of three Republicans running in the 3rd Congressional District for the seat recently vacated by Jason Chaffetz. Their primary is scheduled for August 15.

Kathryn Allen made headlines earlier this month after raising half a million dollars to challenge five-time Republican incumbent Jason Chaffetz in next year's election.
