Utah Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz announced Wednesday he will not seek re-election in 2018. He’s returning to the private sector after eight years representing Utah’s 3rd Congressional District.

Republican candidates for Utah’s 3rd Congressional District will not debate before next week’s primary. But Congressman Jason Chaffetz and Chia-Chi Teng answered questions from voters Monday in a forum hosted by the University of Utah’s Hinckley Institute of Politics.

The Republican candidate challenging Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz is alleging that the lawmaker is using a government website as a campaign tool.

 Congressman Jason Chaffetz’ Republican challenger has requested an investigation into the incumbent’s campaign spending.

In a letter sent this week to the Federal Election Commission, Republican challenger Chia-Chi Teng contends that Chaffetz has been using campaign funds for personal use.

Democratic Brian Wonnacott challenged three-term Republican incumbent Jason Chaffetz to a debate Tuesday night at Utah Valley University. Both men are competing to represent Utah’s third congressional district.

Speaking about the recent White House security breach on the watch of the Secret Service, Chaffetz, who sits on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said there are clearly problems with leadership, training and protocol. Wonnacott stumbled on that topic and struggled to clearly answer a question about the federal government’s handling of the Ebola crisis.
