Today is the final day for in-person voter registration in Utah ahead of Election Day on November 4th. Sherrie Swensen is the Salt Lake County Clerk. She says today’s drive-through voter registration at the County Government Center has been slow but it’s an attempt to encourage residents to register.
“We’re trying to make it very convenient and I know a lot of people are utilizing the on-line registration so maybe they’re not as inclined to come in person, but we’re offering it in case they need it,” says Swensen.
Drive-through voter registration is on the east side of the County Government Center at 2100 South State Street and is open until 5 pm. On-line voter registration is open until midnight Tuesday the 28th at Vote.Utah.Gov. Sherry Swensen says there is a final option for the true procrastinator. The new provisional ballot allows residents to register at their polling place on Election Day with proof of residency and their vote will by officially counted.
“So it’s exciting that we have this opportunity to do election-day registration that was allowed and passed by the legislature,” says Swensen.
She says so far about 4500 people have already voted at the early polling locations and a regular stream of the mail-in ballots are coming back from the approximately 128,000 Utahns who signed up for voting by mail.
