The non-partisan Utah Foundation has published a report that takes a closer look at the priorities of seven candidates running for Governor.
The group surveyed Republican Governor Gary Herbert and his GOP challengers Nate Jensen and Jonathan Johnson, along with Democratic candidates Vaughn Cook and Mike Weinholtz. Unaffiliated candidates L.S. Brown and Gary Van Horn were also included.
Candidates rated their level of concern for issues based on a scale of 1 to 5, one being the least concern.
Research Analyst Christopher Collard, says it’s a great tool for voters.
“I would think it would be a great method for a voter to look through these 21 topics and identify what topics are most important to them and then look across the graph and see which candidate ranks most closely with them in their own priorities,” Collard says.
A previous survey of 800 voters showed healthcare and air quality as their top two concerns. All non-Democrat candidates in the race stated they were very concerned about government spending and public lands.
Most voters who participated in the survey say the state is headed in the right direction but, five of the six candidates who are challenging Governor Gary Herbert said the state is headed in the wrong direction.
The report is available on the Utah Foundation website.
