Politician To Pundit: Chaffetz Joining Fox News

Jun 28, 2017

Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz will be joining Fox News after he resigns his seat from Congress this Friday.

Speculation had swirled for months that Chaffetz may be joining the cable news circuit after announcing he would leave his post just six months into his two-year term.

The Fox News Network confirmed the news on Wednesday in a press release, announcing Chaffetz as its newest political contributor.

In a press conference in May, Chaffetz hinted that he had no intention of leaving the public sphere. He told reporters he would be able to keep his home base in Utah even if he took a high-profile media job elsewhere.

“Those opportunities don’t necessarily mean you’re living on the East Coast; there are other ways to do that, but this is home,” he said.

In his new role, he’ll offer analysis across Fox News’s daytime and primetime shows, as well as the Fox Business Network.

He’ll join fellow politician-turned-pundits like former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.

Chaffetz begins his new job on July 1. A special election to fill his 3rd Congressional seat will take place Nov. 7.
