Legacy Highway & Domestic Partner Benefits

By Jenny Brundin & Tasha Cook

Salt Lake City, UT – If an agreement reached yesterday on Capitol Hill holds, construction on the Legacy Highway could begin as soon as next spring. Transportation officials, conservationists, lawmakers, and the Governor have reached a tentative agreement to settle the Legacy dispute out of court. The agreement in principle brings to a close 12 years of contentious lawsuits. But as one matter leaves the courts, another may land in the courts. Yesterday Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson signed an executive order extending health benefits to unmarried partners who are city employees. KUER's Tasha Cook and Jenny Brundin report. Jenny reports first, on the Legacy Highway.
