Salt Lake City, UT – Incarcerated youth are an unusual focus for a symphonic composition. But Utah composer Phillip Bimstein found the voices of these youth and the sounds in their temporary home to be a tapestry of sound. The alternative classical composer, whose works have been performed at Carnegie Hall, took the recordings and wove them through a musical score for oboe, bass, violin and guitar. The result is "Lockdown," an 18-minute composition that showcases Saturday night at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center in Salt Lake City. KUER's Jenny Brundin reports.
