Intermountain Healthcare has donated $500,000 to Salt Lake County in support of their plan to minimize homelessness. Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams accepted the grant at the Fourth Street Clinic.
“The intent is to help increase access to health care services, including care management and direct services, to improve the health of at-risk families and individuals who find themselves in crisis,” McAdams said.
Salt Lake County has partnered with dozens of government agencies, businesses and homeless service providers to help fight homelessness. Fourth Street Clinic CEO Laura Michalski says she hopes IHC’s generous donation can inspire others to join the cause. While Fourth Street clinic still has to apply for funding from the grant, Michalski says whatever they receive will do a lot of good.
“Intermountain’s gift will allow Fourth Street to support our current much-needed services in the community—the essential healthcare that we provide: the health, mental health, dental, pharmacy, lab services, a variety of different ancillary support services,” she says.
McAdams says this is a crucial step in the plan to minimize homelessness. His coalition has asked the state legislature for $27 million dollars for new shelters and services.
