Hogle Zoo Proud of New Pride (of Lions)

Vulcan and Baron, two male lions on display at Utah's Hogle Zoo

Visitors are getting their first look today at a couple of African lions in their new home at Utah’s Hogle Zoo.

Two male lions, Vulcan and Baron, are now on display in the zoo’s 16-million dollar African Savannah exhibit.  Two female lions have also just arrived, but zoo spokesperson Erica Hansen says we won’t see all four together just yet.

“Getting them acquainted takes some time and it’s not something you want to rush into," Hansen tells KUER.  "And then, our long-term plan is, as soon as they meet and get acquainted, we’ll have them in the habitat together.”

The rest of the African Savannah exhibit will house giraffes, zebras and other animals that live on grasslands.  It’s scheduled to open near the end of May.  The Savannah  exhibit is the last to be built with money from a 33-million dollar bond approved by voters in 2008.
