Former HHS Secretary Says Local Response to Flu Critical

Salt Lake City, UT – Utah now has at least three suspected cases of the H1-N1 flu, the so-called swine flu. The Park City school district has closed its schools through next Monday to avoid any further spread of that virus... and cases have been confirmed in at least 11 states. With that background, the nation's strategy to fight a pandemic is being tested. Former Utah Governor Mike Leavitt created that plan during his tenure as Health and Human Services Secretary. KUER's Jennifer Napier-Pearce asked Leavitt if America is ready to deal with a full-blown public health emergency.
