Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints remembered and honored the late Elder Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles at his funeral service on Monday.
Elder Richard G. Scott had served as an Apostle for the LDS Church for almost 29 years before dying at his home in Salt Lake City last week. Scott was a nuclear engineer by training, but also enjoyed painting and playing music. Before being called as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, Scott served as a mission president in Argentina. Elder Todd Christofferson was a missionary during that time period and said it had been an honor to be able to serve with him again as a member of the Twelve.
“It seems Elder Scott never tired of counseling, teaching, and encouraging whether one on one or in groups," Said Christofferson. "I cannot tell you how may times and in how many places people have commented to me about something they learned from Elder Scott.”
LDS Church President Thomas S. Monson concluded the service saying that Elder Scott was a man of God, and like Jesus Christ, went about doing good.
“May we demonstrate in our lives and by our actions the lessons he has indelibly impressed upon us: Lessons of courage, lessons of patience, lessons of faith, and lessons of devotion,” said Monson.
Scott is the third member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles to die this year. If the Church follows traditional protocol, the three will be replaced during the semi-annual general conference being held this weekend.
