Books & Beats: March 5, 2016

Zepparella plays at The State Room on Friday, March 11th.

This week on Books & Beats, Betsy Burton revisits an older favorite of hers—The Transit of Venus (Penguin) by Shirley Hazzard.  It’s a post-World War II story about love and ideas, and two sisters.  In her review, Betsy says the novel is “every bit as mesmerizing and as brilliant as I’d remembered it to be.”

Then, gear up for Zepparella.  They’re an all-women quartet covering the songs of one of the greatest rock bands of all time—Led Zeppelin.  Zepparella performs at The State Room on Friday, March 11th.

Also at The State Room, the six-piece band from Hartford, CT, Bronze Radio Return plays on Monday, March 7th.

Then, local indie-folk outfit Quiet House play at Velour Live Music Gallery in Provo on Saturday, March 12th.

Music heard on this Books & Beats:

1.      “When the Levee Breaks” by Led Zeppelin, performed by Zepparella

2.      “Shake, Shake, Shake” by Bronze Radio Return

3.      “Steady + Sure” by Quiet House
