Buena Vista Social Club plays at Red Butte Garden on Monday, August 24th.

In Robert Goddard’s Into the Blue (Delta), a bartender’s past chases him from London to Greece and back again.  Betsy Burton says, “Complex and elegantly plotted, well-written and compulsively readable, even better, Into the Blue is but one of a dozen such by an author who flies under the radar but shouldn’t.  Robert Goddard, one of many fecund and literary authors, [is] ideal for readers who have exhausted the best-selling writers of the mystery genre or are jaded by those who write badly.”

The album “Buena Vista Social Club” made Cuban music and culture massively popular when it was released in 1997.  Now the musicians behind that project are touring for the last time.  Catch the performance at Red Butte Garden on Monday, August 24th.

Then Swedish singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson, better known as The Tallest Man on Earth, plays at Park City Live on Tuesday, August 25th.

Finally, round out the week with St. Vincent’s show at this week’s Twilight Concert—Thursday, August 27th.

Tracks heard on this week’s Books & Beats:

“Chan Chan” by Buena Vista Social Club

“I Won’t Be Found” by The Tallest Man on Earth
