8/4/10: Gloryland

Novelist and national park ranger Shelton Johnson
Novelist and national park ranger Shelton Johnson

By Doug Fabrizio

Salt Lake City, Utah – Many of us were introduced to Shelton Johnson in Ken Burns' latest documentary. Johnson is a Detroit native who found his place in America's national parks. He's one of the few African-American rangers in the park system. Johnson has written a novel that weaves his own story and his family's past into the history he discovered while researching the buffalo soldiers. The book is called Gloryland. (Rebroadcast)
