8/10/07: Walking it Off

Author and Environmentalist Doug Peacock
Author and Environmentalist Doug Peacock

By Doug Fabrizio

Salt Lake City, UT – Friday on RadioWest, we're rebroadcasting our conversation with Doug Peacock about his memoir Walking it Off. When Peacock returned from two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Green Beret medic, he wondered if he would ever be able to live a fully human life. Along the way he discovered the wilderness of the American West and he met Edward Abbey. Abbey would come to mythologize Peacock as George Washington Hayduke in his classic book The Monkey Wrench Gang, but he also helped his friend reconcile his love of the wild with his love of family and home.

Doug and Andrea Peacock will be in Salt Lake City on Monday, September 10 at 7:00 p.m. Peacock will talk about Ed Abbey. The event is part of Ken Sanders Rare Books 10th Anniversary Celebration. For more information, call the bookstore at 801-521-3819 or visit them on-line
