3/5/09: Writer and Conservationist Wendell Berry

Poet, Novelist, Essayist and Activist Wendell Berry
Poet, Novelist, Essayist and Activist Wendell Berry

By Doug Fabrizio

Salt Lake City, UT – You're more likely to the find the writer Wendell Berry working on his family farm in Kentucky then you are to find him on the lecture circuit. He likes to farm the old-fashioned way - using horses and growing as much of his own food as possible. But Berry is also a poet, a novelist and a citizen activist with more than 40 books on conservation and the human condition. Wendell Berry is in Utah, and he joins Doug in studio to talk about values and usefulness and his own connection to the soil.

  • Wendell Berry is in Salt Lake City as a guest of the Wallace Stegner Center. Thursday at 5:00 p.m. he'll be at Ken Sanders Rare Books to sign his works. At 6:30 p.m., he'll give a reading at the Salt Lake Masonic Temple. For information on these events, click here.
  • A one time Stegner fellow, Berry will also give the closing keynote address for the 2009 Stegner Symposium. The symposium is March 6 and 7th, and for registration information, click here
