1/27/09: The Great Tennessee Monkey Trial

By Doug Fabrizio

Salt Lake City, UT – In 1925, the eyes of the nation were turned to Dayton, Tennessee, where debates over Darwinism played out in Tennessee vs. John Thomas Scopes. The case came to be known as the "Monkey Trial," and nearly 80 years later, how we teach evolution in schools still remains controversial. A play based on the case is being performed in Ogden and Salt Lake City this week, so we're taking the opportunity to talk about the Scopes trial - and what it means to us today.

  • The Great Tennessee Monkey Trial will be performed Tuesday, January 27th at 7:30 p.m. at the Browning Center for the Performing Arts. For tickets and information, click here or call 801-626-8500.
  • The play will be performed Wednesday, January 28th at 7:30 p.m. at Kingsbury Hall on the campus of the University of Utah. For tickets and information, click here or call 801-581-7100
