Nikole Hannah-Jones is a reporter for The New York Times and a contributor to This American Life, and she's spent the last five years investigating the way racial segregation in housing and schools is maintained through official action and policy. She was interviewed by KUER's Education Reporter, Lee Hale, for the second in the three-part It Starts With You Speaker Series on August 29th, 2017 at SLCC's Grand Theatre.

KUER is hosting our third event with the Young Friends of KUER: a group of young professionals, students and twenty- and thirtysomethings who are avid public radio listeners and wish to interact more with KUER.

Join us Saturday, August 26th 9:00am-1:00pm at Snowbird (entry 2) as we leave behind a trail of trees in TreeUtah’s Project Oxygen! Sponsored by Mark Miller Subaru, we will be helping plant 2,000 native tree seedlings along Snowbird’s mountainside! Breakfast, lunch, lift access and tools will be provided.

June 28: No Man's Land

Join us as we continue our Through the Lens series on documentary films with No Man’s Land: an on-the-ground account of the occupation last year of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. For 41 days, protestors and right-wing militia members, held the refuge hostage in open defiance of the federal government. Director David Byars’s film documents their ultimately quixotic demonstration, from its inception to its dramatic demise.

KUER 90.1 is partnering with Voices for Utah Children and KUED to host a screening of Frontline's Second Chance Kids. This Frontline episode looks inside the fight over the fate of juveniles in prison for murder, following a landmark Supreme Court ruling. Join us following the screening for a panel discussion moderated by award-winning journalist, Whittney Evans.

God Knows Where I Am is the story of Linda Bishop, a well-educated New Hampshire mother who suffered from a severe bipolar disorder with psychosis, who was intermittently incarcerated and homeless, inevitably being committed for three years to a state psychiatric facility.

Kirsten Johnson’s 25-year career as a documentary film cinematographer has taken her around the world, often to regions of conflict. Her own film, Cameraperson, is a memoir of her life’s work assembled from a collage of cutting-room-floor footage. It’s also a keen examination of the dilemmas and blind spots that riddle documentary filmmaking. Johnson joined RadioWest on Monday, February 27th, 2017 to discuss what it’s like to be behind the camera. Listen to the interview here
