A Small Group of Davis County GOP Members Looks to Oust County Chair

Several Davis County Republicans are trying to oust their local party chair because he wasn’t registered with the party when was elected. 

Davis County GOP Chair Phill Wright believes the whole thing is a big mistake. He says he inadvertently failed to check a box declaring himself a Republican on a provisional ballot in 2012 and never knew that it caused his status to change.

West's GOP Leaders Plot Strategy

The West’s Republican are having a strategy session in Utah, calling on the federal government to cut regulation and surrender lands in their states.

Montana State Sen. Jennifer Fielder came to Utah to swap ideas at the Western Republican Leadership Conference. Fielder says Western states need to take control of federal lands because states do a better job managing wildlife, forests and range.

Chaffetz Calls for Piecemeal Immigration Reform

Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz called for a piecemeal approach to immigration reform while speaking at the Hinckley Institute of Politics today. He says if you want to solve the overall problem you have to start by fixing legal immigration.

“You never ever solve this problem unless you fix legal immigration," he says. "I don’t care how big, far, wide your fence is, if you don’t fix legal immigration you never solve the problem.”

GOP Welcomes Former Democratic State Representative to Their Ranks

The Utah Republican party is welcoming former Democratic state representative Christine Watkins with open arms after her recent decision to join the GOP. Watkins, who has served her district near Price for four years, was considered a conservative democrat in the legislature and often sided with Republicans on issues like energy development. Utah Republican Party Chairman Thomas Wright says those shared values are some of the reasons why Watkins decided to make the switch.

Mia Love Speaks About The American Dream At GOP Convention

Saratoga Springs Mayor and Utah Congressional Candidate Mia Love took the stage last night at the GOP National Convention.

A video montage showcasing Love as a mayor and mother preceded her speech. Her speech was brief. Love spoke for just under four minutes, but she quickly invoked the story of her Haitian immigrant parents and what they taught her about American values.

"So the America I grew up knowing was centered in self-reliance and filled with the possibilities of living the American dream," she says.
