All seven city council members signed a letter to Mayor Jackie Biskupski and Utah Transit Authority CEO Jerry Benson this week, saying they were ‘alarmed’ to learn about the plans.

A fence will soon go up between the Road Home shelter and The Gateway mall in downtown Salt Lake City. The Utah Transit Authority says it will pay about $42,000 to install it, while Salt Lake City spokesman Matthew Rojas says the City will pay “a few thousand dollars” to remove a mid-block crosswalk.

This weekend, one of the original restaurants at The Gateway shopping center in Salt Lake City will serve its last meal. Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill is closing Saturday. While there is a growing list of closures at The Gateway, one restaurant is opening this month that promises a new experience.

Gateway Shops Missing Out on Downtown Resurgence

A report released Tuesday shows that retail sales in downtown Salt Lake City were up 36 percent last year, largely driven by business at City Creek Center. But some businesses at The Gateway Shopping Center say they are not seeing the same trend.

As City Creek Center celebrates its one year anniversary, the nearby Gateway Mall is standing its ground and making new investments. 

The Gateway has lost about a dozen stores to City Creek Center.  But The Gateway’s General Manager Scott Bennett says the outdoor center for shopping, dining, and entertainment is doing just fine.
