Audit Validates Salt Lake County’s New Behavioral Health Model

An independent audit of Salt Lake County’s Behavioral Health Services system was released Tuesday. Officials say it validates the county’s move to a managed-care model.  County Mayor Ben McAdams called for the audit last year following news that provider Valley Behavioral Health (VBH) would discontinue service to hundreds of patients due to budget cuts.

Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams Welcomes New Citizens

Four hundred and fifty-four Utah Residents from 83 different countries became U.S. Citizens at Abravanel Hall today and for many, taking the Oath of Citizenship was a profound experience.

The candidates stood and raised their right hand as Julie Wierschem the Deputy Clerk of the U.S. District Court led the oath. The ceremony featured Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams as Guest Speaker. He asked the new citizens to exercise their voting rights and share ideas and cultural contributions with the community. He says their voices are important to him as a public servant.

From Bingo to Yoga, Senior Center Celebrates 50 Years in Salt Lake City

Utah’s oldest senior center celebrated 50 years of service Thursday in Salt Lake City. But the senior population is growing and changing, and local leaders say they need to adapt along with them in order to meet their needs.

Tenth East Senior Center Manager John Bennett says 50 years ago, bingo and pool were the popular pastimes. Nowadays, the center is filled with baby boomers, many of them still working, and they’re looking for something different.

Members of the Salt Lake City council and newly elected Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams joined volunteers to give a helping hand at the Utah Food Bank today. The event was part of a day of service honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“It’s kind of hard but it’s fun. We’ve been kicking the boxes around pretending that we’re playing soccer and everyone’s in a good mood because we’re all hyped up on coffee and donuts,” says Laurel Conde.

McAdams Sworn in as New Salt Lake County Mayor

Democrat Ben McAdams was sworn in as Salt Lake County Mayor this morning by Salt Lake County 3rd district juvenile court Judge Andrew Valdez at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. McAdams, Deputy Mayor Nichole Dunn and newly elected council members Max Burdick, Jim Bradley, Michael Jensen and Sam Granato all took the oath of office before a packed theater. 

Following his pledge to uphold the United States constitution and the constitution of the state of Utah, McAdams told the crowd today is the day he begins to deliver on the promises he made during the campaign.

Sheriff, Police Union Endorse Ben McAdams

The Greater Salt Lake Unified Police Federation and Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder announced this morning they’re endorsing Democrat Ben McAdams for Salt Lake County Mayor.  The support comes a week after Winder denounced McAdams’ opponent, Republican Mark Crockett’s jail services proposal.  

Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder says the county does not need an autocratic leader, but rather a diplomatic one.
