Salt Lake City, UT – Right now you're using your ears to hear. But many insects send signals to each other by making things vibrate, such as twigs or leaves. It is called seismic communication and it is a growing field of study for biologists. Jeff Rice reports for the Western Soundscapes radio series.

The Western Soundscapes radio series is funded in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and is produced in cooperation with the Western Soundscape Archive at the University of Utah's J. Willard Marriott Library.
