Members of the Utah Senate take time to honor fallen service personnel in a solemn moment on the Senate floor.

A moment of silence was held in the State Senate Friday to honor fallen Utah military service members.

Relatives of those who lost their lives over the past year stood in front of the chamber to hear the official state legislature citation honoring those who died in service to their country. Some held photos of their loved one in front of them. Republican Senator Allen Christensen of North Ogden is given the yearly task in that chamber.

“Senators we have…the toughest assignment of the year for me right now.”

After reading the names and ranks of the 19 Utah soldiers, Senator Christensen apologized for any mistakes he may have made.

“I try to do this without thinking because I can’t see the page as soon as I start thinking what it means to you and what it means to us. But on behalf of a grateful state of Utah, thank you so much for your sacrifices.”

Christensen then asked for a moment of silence and then again thanked the families. Everyone in the chamber applauded and remained standing until all of the families had left the chamber.
