Tuesday, March 7: Women at War

Salt Lake City, UT – While women veterans may bristle at the comparisons, there are a number of questions that come up when we talk about women in the military. Beyond the question of whether they are in fact fully integrated into the armed services these days, there are also some interesting social questions. Do women see the military and war in different ways? Do they see their purpose -- their service -- differently? How have women influenced the military, and how is the military influencing women? Doug talks to Dan McCool of the American West Center, World War II Veteran Eula Kimber, Iraq Veteran Major Janice Gourley and Ilene Feinman, author of "Citizenship Rites: Feminist Soldiers and Feminist Antimilitarists."

  • Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. the American West Center will host a discussion entitled "Women at War" in the East Ballroom of the Union Building on the University of Utah Campus. The panel will consist of moderator Dan McCool of the American West Center and 4 women veterans, including World War II Veteran Eula Kimber and Iraq Veteran Major Janice Gourley.
