Tuesday, March 21: Three Cups of Tea

By Doug Fabrizio

Salt Lake City, UT – In 1993, Greg Mortenson failed in his attempt to climb K2 and became separated from his group in desolate Northern Pakistan. Alone, and without food and water, he stumbled into a village, where he was nursed back to health. He vowed to repay the people who saved him by building a school for the 84 local children. That promise became a crusade, and Mortenson has since built 55 schools for 24,000 children in Pakistan and Afghanistan. His book, Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Fight Terrorism and Build Nations, tells the story of his attempts to reach across the cultural divide and make a difference in the world through education.

  • Greg Mortenson will be at the Salt Lake City Public Library as part of the "Authors on Stage" series. The event takes place this Friday, March 24th at 7:00 p.m., 210 East 400 South. For more information, visit the libary on-line or call 524-8200.
