Teaching Evolution in Utah: Part Two

Salt Lake City, Utah – A CENTURY-OLD DEBATE OVER HOW SCHOOLS SHOULD TEACH THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION LIT UP AGAIN LAST FRIDAY . .WHEN A UTAH LAWMAKER ANNOUNCED HE MAY SPONSOR A BILL REQUIRING UTAH EDUCATORS TO TEACH THE IDEA THAT A SUPERIOR BEING CREATED THE WORLD. IT'S UNCLEAR WHERE THAT IDEA WILL GO.

IN UTAH SCHOOLS, THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION- HOW DIVERSE LIFE FORMS ARE ORGANIZED ON EARTH - MAKE UP ABOUT A FIFTH OF UTAH'S HIGH SCHOOL BIOLOGY CURRICULUM.
IT CAN, HOWEVER, BE A TRICKY SUBJECT TO TEACH IN A STATE WHERE SOME SEE THE IDEA OF EVOLUTION AS CHALLENGING THEIR RELIGIOUS BELIEFS.
BUT MORMON THEOLOGY DOESN'T APPEAR TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION. KUER'S JENNY BRUNDIN REPORTS.
