Spending Bills "Bundled" in Final Days
Jenny Brundin, Dan Bammes
Salt Lake City, UT – A battle is brewing over who is really in control of Utah's public education. Educators say lawmakers could be putting more into the Weighted Pupil Unit, or W.P.U., the per-pupil funding unit that pays for teacher salaries and classrooms. Instead, they say lawmakers are putting money into untested pilot programs that don't do anything to address parents' number one concern: Utah's large class sizes. KUER's Jenny Brundin reports.
A bill allowing concealed weapons permit holders to carry their guns out in the open passed the Utah House yesterday, as did a bill imposing a whole list of restrictions on undocumented immigrants. KUER's Dan Bammes has more from Utah's Capitol Hill.
