Saturday Could Be Utah Liquor Stores’ Busiest Day Ever

Dec 20, 2017

Liquor stores are anticipating record-breaking sales leading up to Christmas. There’s always a rush before a holiday, said Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control spokesman Terry Wood.

“The day before Thanksgiving, we had $3.4 Million in sales statewide on one day alone.”

Wood encourages customers to visit the liquor store early. Since Christmas Eve is on a Sunday, stores will be closed. That means Saturday could be the busiest day ever at Utah’s liquor stores.

“We expect this Saturday, Dec. 23, to just be huge,” Wood said.  “We’re trying to encourage our customers to shop before Saturday.”

Wood said a good time to shop is between 1-3 p.m., when stores are generally a little slower.

The DABC attributes climbing steadily-climbing sales to a bigger and more diverse population. Last year it raked in $427 million.
