Polygamous leader Lyle Jeffs faces up to five years in prison after agreeing to a plea deal in a food-stamp fraud and escape case.
Jeffs pleaded guilty to two felony charges on Tuesday. The agreement also requires him to pay $1 million in restitution. His sentencing hearing is set for Dec. 13.
U.S. Attorney for Utah John Huber calls the agreement a fair end to a hard-fought court battle.
Jeffs's defense attorney declined to comment.
The 57-year-old escaped home confinement last year while awaiting trial in the fraud case. He was arrested in June in South Dakota after nearly a year on the run.
