Poll Shows Owens with Slight Lead Over Love in 4th Congressional District Race

A new poll released Monday by Brigham Young University shows Democrat Doug Owens with a slight lead of over Republican Mia Love in the fourth congressional district race.

The poll indicates that nearly 46 percent of participants support Doug Owens in the fourth district and 42 percent support Mia Love.  Chris Karpowitz is the co-director of the Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy at BYU.  He says the poll shows that Love is still trying to distance herself from opponent despite raising much more money. Karpowitz also says that Owens’ strategy of winning over some independents and moderate Republicans in the district appears to be working, but the race is still extremely close.

“This is just one indicator of the race in the fourth district.  It’s a smaller number of respondents so there is some uncertainty around this result, but it does indicate that neither candidate has taken a substantial lead,” says Karpowitz.

Only 236 people participated in the 4th district poll and the margin error among respondents is 6.4 percent.  Those statistics indicate this race is still very much up for grabs.
