Old World, New Kitchen - Elizabeth Diansongi
Salt Lake City, UT – For many families, the kitchen is a place to grab a bite or whip up a quick meal for kids on the run. But for others the kitchen is a special place where family stories are told and cultural traditions are passed on. It's a place where, through the act of cooking, one learns about the connections between the past and the present. And for millions of new Americans displaced from their ethnic and cultural homes, the kitchen is also a space for re-creation and re-invention. In a five part series, producer Beth Hoffman joins immigrant women as they cook in their homes. In this month's story, Hoffman visits the home of Elizabeth Diansongi, a refugee from the Congo.
