Neil Young's "Special Deluxe"

Blue Rider Press

Did you hear Ari Shapiro's interview with Neil Young yesterday? I had no idea that "Long May You Run" was an ode to Young's first car, a hearse - Mort Hearseberg. "But I started - my first car was a hearse, and, you know, I used it to carry my band equipment around. And I had rollers in the back, and the amplifiers would slide in and out very easily just like the coffins used to. And I think the hearse itself was a very happy hearse to be kind of, like, reassigned." Neil Young has a new memoir out, Special Deluxe, devoted to his cars.
