Murray City Councilman Jim Brass announced today that he’s running to replace Murray City Mayor Dan Snarr, who recently disclosed he will not be running for re-election.
Jim Brass has been on the Murray City Council for ten years. Before that, he served on the planning and zoning commission. Democratic state Representative Carol Spackman-Moss was at Brass’ announcement. She says she’s giving her support to Brass because of his experience.
“He has worked with budgets," she says. "He’s done planning and zoning issues. He knows this city well. And he’s a very hard working man, I know that.”
Brass says if elected mayor his main goal will be to strike a balance between building a good commercial tax base through continued development and protecting Murray’s quiet neighborhoods.
“We’re looking at different areas that we feel are ripe for redevelopment," he says. "And we want to target those areas so that developers will go there instead of looking at the edges of neighborhoods.”
So far, Ted Eyre and Buck Swaney are the only other people that have declared their candidacy for mayor in Murray. The deadline to declare is Friday June 7.
