Mike Reberg Named as Salt Lake County's New Director of Animal Services
Salt Lake County Animal Services has a new director. Mike Reberg had been working in Congressman Jim Matheson’s Wasatch Front office. He’s also a former associate public works director for the county. Russ Wall, Salt Lake County’s Public Works Director, says Reberg intends to bring the two main aspects of animal services, enforcement and adoption, closer together.
“He’s an animal lover but more importantly, he’s a people lover and so we’re really excited to have him here,” says Wall.
He says Reberg will be stepping into the office without having to deal with the complaint against Carriage for Hire filed last month with the County by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
“Our investigation is wrapped up. We inspected the animals and the carriages and then we did send a letter to Salt Lake City indicating that there had been some violations and referred it to them for further action if they felt it was necessary,” says Wall.
Art Raymond, of the Salt Lake City Mayor Office, says a number of changes to current codes for horse carriage businesses are being put to the city council for consideration.
Reberg is replacing the acting director of Salt Lake County Animal Services, Don Porter, who announced his retirement in July.
