Legislature Struggles with Ethics Reform

Salt Lake City, UT – For years, Utah lawmakers have wrestled with whether to place restrictions on the gifts lobbyists give to them. Jazz tickets, expensive meals, golf games that's all been part of the package of being a state lawmaker. And for years, the Republican majority has opposed restricting gifts. But they did take a small step toward that end yesterday by expanding Utah's gift disclosure law. Meantime, in the state Senate, lawmakers advanced a bill to ban smoking in private clubs and taverns.
