Today’s the official kickoff of the holiday travel season and the Salt Lake City International Airport is already bustling with air travelers.
“What we’re seeing is just a maybe little bit longer lines at the TSA check-in points," says Nancy Volmer, the spokeswoman for the airport. "We’re always encouraging travelers to plan ahead; just to ensure a pleasant experience when they do come out to the airport.”
Volmer says both TSA and airport staff are larger in anticipation of the holiday rush. Volmer lists three things for every visitor to do that will get them to the flight with less stress. Check the airline’s website for possible weather related delays, print or download the boarding pass before getting to the airport and know the TSA 3-1-1.
“And that just helps with the screening process. If people know what they can bring in because if someone brings in something that’s not allowed," says Volmer, "then that slows down the process.”
Volmer says flow at the airport peaks on Thanksgiving Day at Noon and then slows down until Sunday afternoon and evening when everyone comes back. She says Salt Lake City’s airport was again ranked #1 in the nation for on-time departures in the most recent survey.
