Funding Cuts Threaten Urban Health Programs for Native Americans

By Laura Strickler

Washington, D.C. – Three-quarters of all Native Americans live in urban areas of the United States rather than on reservations. In Salt Lake City, more than four thousand Native Americans depend on health care from the Indian Walk-In Center on 13th South. But the White House says Native Americans living in cities have other options for medical care, and it's eliminated funding for clinics in cities across the United States. That could potentially close the Walk-In Center, which depends on the federal Indian Health Service for most of its funding. Laura Strickler reports from Washington D-C.
