Friday, January 20: Jonestown

Salt Lake City, UT – On November 18, 1978, over 900 members of the Peoples Temple died in a mass suicide/murder. Jim Jones had led his followers across the US and eventually to Guyana. The goal was to build a society based on racial equality and justice. Stanley Nelson's new film Jonestown uses archival footage, recently declassified FBI files and interviews with survivors and family members to examine the fear and manipulation that bound the community. Doug Fabrizio talks to Nelson, along with survivor Hue Fortson and family member Rebecca Moore, about the life and death of the Peoples Temple.

On Sunday, January 22nd at 2:00 p.m., the Salt Lake City Film Center, KUED and the NAACP Salt Lake City Branch will present an advanced screening of American Experience - Jonestown: The Life and Death of the People's Temple. The event will take place at the Salt Lake City Public Library, 210 East 400 South in Downtown Salt Lake City. Visit The Salt Lake City Film Center for more information.
