Final Mitigation Plan for North Salt Lake Landslide Almost Ready

North Salt Lake city officials say they are closing in on a final plan to mitigate the effects of the landslide that happened last August.

North Salt Lake City Mayor Len Arave says a final approved mitigation plan should be made public in 2 – 3 weeks.

“The plan is getting pretty close to being final," he says. "There are just a few things that we’re talking about that people have issues in a few locations.”

While Arave wouldn’t give specifics yet, he says the final plan will likely affect a smaller area than their original, worst-case scenario plan. He also says that could impact the discussions city officials are having with stakeholders about who’s going to pay for it.

“The plan is coming in better than I’d hope, although it still might be expensive, but it’s really hard to have those discussions unless you know exactly what needs to be done,” he says.

On Tuesday the City Council voted to vacate the lots for Eaglepointe Estates Phases 18 and 19 that are located above the landslide. That eliminates the subdivisions on the land that will need to be redrawn after any mitigation.

Arave says the final plan will also involve moving a nearby road.
