Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill has been investigating claims of elder abuse and ethics violations by Gary Ott’s former aides for nearly a year. But some people are tired of waiting for that investigation to end.
The Salt Lake County Republican Party said Tuesday that charges should have been filed by now, and called on Gill to resign.
The DA responded in a statement, saying his office continues to investigate, and that recent testimony from Ott’s former aides during a court hearing will be “invaluable” to the investigation. Gill added that he is bound by the law and can only bring criminal charges if they’re based on facts and evidence.
In separate statements, Gill and the Utah Democratic Party condemned the county GOP for “politicizing” Ott’s death.
The County Republican Party says it just wants justice for the former County recorder, who died last week of complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
