Condoleezza Rice in Utah to Stump for Mia Love

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was in Utah today stumping for 4th District congressional candidate Mia Love. Rice spoke during a fundraiser at Thanksgiving point, where she said the economy is in trouble.

Rice told the audience that people across the country are feeling great anxiety about the economy, yet leaders in Washington continue to stall economic growth.

“If we can’t get control of our spending, if we keep borrowing money than nobody is going to look to America as the land of opportunity because frankly it won’t be," Rice said.

Rice on the other hand, praised Mia Love, who she said rebuilt the city of Saratoga Springs as its mayor with policies rooted in fiscal discipline.

Love said this doesn’t mean she’s a Washington insider, but rather Utah is being noticed.

“I’m not going out there," Love said. "They’re coming here. And our voice is being heard and amplified throughout the nation. I think Utah is going to make some strong strides, they’re going to be at the table when it comes to making decisions and our values are going to be heard.”

Love has also received the support of Republican House Speaker John Boehner, as well as Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Paul Ryan who was in town earlier this week.

If elected, she would be the first black Republican woman in Congress.
