Salt Lake City, UT – Utah 1st Congressional District Democratic candidate Morgan Bowen says that incumbent Rob Bishop is "not doing his job" in Congress.
"Congress has been very dysfunctional over the past years... and has been very irresponsible about how they're handling the budget, how they're handling the war, how they're handling the energy crisis we're in, how they're handling the economy," Bowen said.
"Seven months ago I got looking at things and I started thinking I can't watch my children's future go down the drain because the incompetence of Congress and our congressman in the current state. He's not doing his job," Bowen added.
Bowen is a seminary teacher from Hyde Park. He is emphasizing his lack of experience in elected office as a qualification for the House seat.
"They've been so cloistered in the world of legislative politics and how that whole system works, they forget what's going on in the real world. I'm bringing a real world perspective to Congress," Bowen said.
The most important issues currently are the economy, the U.S. deficit, and the energy crisis, Bowen said.
"My children are going to inherit from this Congress a $9.5 trillion debt, and I don't think that's right. So I'm running," he said.
