Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros will perform at Red Butte Garden on Monday, June 20.

Annie Proulx’s hefty new novel Barkskins (Scribner) tells the story of forests and timber in America, following two families for centuries—starting in 1693.  In her review, Betsy Burton says, “This isn’t a novel to keep you up at night, but one to remind you who you are and how you came to be—and of where you are, and are not, going.”

Then, now that the summer weather’s here, it’s time to start thinking about all the outdoor concerts we have in Utah.  Austen Diamond’s got a couple picked out already: Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros at Red Butte Garden on Monday, June 20th; and Neon Indian at the Ogden Twilight Concert Series on Thursday, June 23rd.

Music heard on this Books & Beats:

Intro: “Drake” by Show of Hands

1: “Home” by Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros

2: “No Love Like Yours” by Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zero

3: “Annie” by Neon Indian
