In The Red Collar (Europa) by Jean-Christophe Rufin, a military investigator tries to get to the bottom of a prisoner’s strange behavior.  In her review, Betsy Burton says the novel “has surprising narrative tension, an atmosphere that is at once breathless and brooding, and the resonance of fine poetry.”

Jazz musician Esperanza Spalding won the Grammy Award for best new artist 2011.  With her latest project, she’s getting back in touch with her childhood interest in theater, poetry, and movement.  She performs at the Big Stars, Bright Nights Concert Series at Deer Valley on Thursday, July 30th.

Mega pop stars Imagine Dragons play at Energy Solutions Arena on Tuesday, July 28.

And Unknown Mortal Orchestra will bring their indie neo-soul sound to Urban Lounge on Wednesday, July29th.
