Mount Moriah performs at Kilby Court on Friday, April 22.

Katharine Coles teaches in the English Department at The University of Utah, and she’s a former Poet Laureate of Utah.  She just published her sixth collection.  It’s called Flight (Red Hen Press).  Betsy Burton says, “The zest for life so marked in her last collection […] is here in full measure along with the playfulness, the wonderful ability Coles has to shed light on who we are and how we live and love and die.”

Then, as usual, Salt Lake City’s different music venues offer concert-goers pretty good variety.

Coming out of Oakland, CA, hip-hop duo Zion I will bring their beat-heavy rap to Urban Lounge on Tuesday, April 19th.

Singer-songwriter Howie Day is coming to The State Room on Thursday, April 21st.

Kilby Court has long been Salt Lake City’s go-to all-ages venue.  This week, Austen Diamond recommends bringing the whole family toMountMoriah’s show there on Friday, April 22nd.

The Complex offers multiple stages for all kinds of different music.  Scottish indie-rockers Frightened Rabbit will play on Saturday, April 23rd.

Music heard on this Books & Beats:

1: “Culture Freedom” by Zion I

2: “Collide” by Howie Day

3: “Baby Blue” by Mount Moriah

4: “Get Out” by Frightened Rabbit
