9/28/11: Thelma & Louise

Salt Lake City, Utah – Wednesday, we're talking about the landmark film "Thelma & Louise." When it was released in 1991, it broke new ground by telling a story about women, with two strong female leads and a woman screenwriter. But 20 years later, Atlantic Magazine has dubbed it "The Last Great Film About Women", suggesting little has changed for women since. Star Geena Davis is in Utah and joins Doug and others for a look at "Thelma & Louise" and why it's still unique on the silver screen.

  • Geena Davis is in Utah to deliver the keynote address for the 2011 Zions Bank "Smart Women, Smart Money" conference. Tickets are sold out for this event. [Details]
  • Tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, the Utah Film Center will present a screening of "Thelma & Louise," followed by a panel discussion with Geena Davis, producer Mimi Polk Gitlin and Leigh von der Esch of the Utah Office of Tourism. Tickets are available by calling ArtTix at 801-355-ARTS. [Details]
  • The Utah Film Center is also offering a free screening in Moab on Thursday night. Producer Mimi Polk Gitlin and Leigh von der Esch of the Utah Office of Tourism will be on hand for that screening as well.[Details]
  • Read Raina Lipsitz's 'Thelma & Louise': The Last Great Film About Women at The Atlantic
