6/28/06: Sisters in Law

Cameroonian State Prosecutor Vera Ngassa and Court President Beatrice Ntuba

By Jenny Brundin

Salt Lake City, UT – In a legal system rife with prejudice against women, the town of Kumba, Cameroon had seen no convictions in spousal abuse cases for 17 years. But state prosecutor Vera Ngassa and court president Beatrice Ntuba have changed the way justice is administered in this small courthouse. With humor and wisdom, the documentary Sisters in Law follows their cases - and shows the difference a few voices can make. Ngassa and Ntuba are in Salt Lake City this week, and join Jenny Brundin to talk about women's rights and social change in their community.

  • The Salt Lake City Film Center will present a free screening of Sisters in Law on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. as part of their New Faces of Africa series. Both Vera Ngassa and Beatrice Ntuba will be at the screening. The event will take place at the Salt Lake City Library Auditorium. For more information, visit the Center on-line or call 801-746-7000.
