5/1/06: The Divine Strake Weapons Test

Salt Lake City, UT – Early last month, the Pentagon announced it was going to conduct a test of a massive 700 ton ammonium nitrate and fuel oil bomb at the Nevada test site in June. They've called the test Divine Strake. Government officials want to know whether the blast will penetrate fortified underground bunkers. The test is raising questions about the intentions of the Pentagon in light of threats from Iran's nuclear program: Just how extensive will the blast be? Is it a prelude for tests of tactical nuclear weapons? What are the implications for those who live downwind?
